Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the GitPulse browser extension. At GitPulse, we take your privacy and the security of your code seriously. This policy outlines what information we collect, how it is used, and how we protect it, in strict compliance with the Google Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies.

1. Information We Collect and Access

GitPulse is designed to minimize data access and does not collect, store, or transmit personal data or analytics to our own servers. The extension only accesses the following information locally on your device:

• Active Tab Content: GitPulse requests the activeTab and host permissions for https://github.com/*. It reads the Document Object Model (DOM) of the active GitHub repository page or Pull Request strictly when you explicitly trigger an analysis.
• API Key: GitPulse requires a Groq API Key to function. This key is saved locally in your browser using the Chrome Storage API (storage permission).

2. How We Use the Information

The information accessed is utilized solely for the core functionality of the extension:

• Code Analysis: The source code and diffs read from your active GitHub tab are sent directly to the official Groq API (https://api.groq.com/*) to generate an AI-powered code review.
• API Authentication: The locally stored Groq API key is sent directly to the Groq API for authentication purposes during the review process.

3. Data Sharing and Third-Party Services

GitPulse does not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your data or code to any external third parties, with the sole exception of the Groq API provider necessary for generating the code reviews. We do not use third-party tracking, analytics, or advertising services within the extension.

4. Data Storage and Security

• No Server-Side Storage: We do not operate servers that store your code, API keys, or personal information. Your code remains 100% private to you and the Groq API provider.
• Local Key Storage: Your Groq API key is stored locally on your device using Chrome's secure storage capabilities. It is never transmitted anywhere other than the official Groq API endpoint.
• Transient Code Processing: Code read from your GitHub page is processed transiently in the browser's memory and is discarded once the AI summary is generated and displayed.

5. Your Control and Data Retention

Since GitPulse does not store any data remotely, you maintain complete control over your information:

• You can clear your stored Groq API key at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing your browser's local extension data.
• You control when the extension reads your code by actively initiating the analysis process.

6. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy and provide notice within the extension or via the Chrome Web Store listing.
